Sunday Shots… on a Saturday!

A fascinating game at Bridgestone Arena last night. The Vegas Golden Knights took a 4-3 shootout win that proved an age old saying… effort will beat talent almost every time. The Nashville Predators were outskated for most of the game, were beaten to many of the 50/50 pucks and generally were out played and frankly were lucky to get a point in last night’s tilt.
Say this for Vegas… they work their butts off. There is a lot of early franchise Preds in that team. Head coach Gerard Gallent has them playing hard and believing in the system and they are being rewarded. Give the Preds their due, coming back from an 0-2 deficit to take a lead with less than five minutes to go in the game was solid… not holding that lead could be chalked up to bad puck luck and a bad bounce.
A six round shootout followed the overtime… and both goaltenders were spectacular. Malcolm Subban is making the most of his opportunity in the Vegas net and he probably should’ve been named a star of the game last night for his 38 save performance.
So, the Predators are off until Wednesday when they play the Vancouver Canucks in Vancouver… the first of a three game Western Canada swing. Play three games in four days then come home for two of the final three before the holiday break.

Random Notes
- Filip Forsberg continued his home point streak… he has posted at least a point in every home game so far this season.
- Interesting battle broke out on Twitter as the Vegas twitter account accused the Nashville media row of clapping when the Predators scored. When they were called out on it, they deleted the tweet. What started out as fun has kinda jumped the shark… the person or persons behind the account owes the Nashville sports writers a retraction and an apology for a blatant and blanket accusation of unprofessionalism. It’s bad form at best, that the official Twitter account of an NHL team does such a thing…
- Ryan Johansen was placed on IR, but expect him back in the lineup during the Western Canada swing.
- You just knew that both James Neal and Calle Jarnkrok would score last night…
- KHL Watch - Eeli Tolvanen’s Jokerit club was idle yesterday. Tolvanen now has 17 goals and 13 assists for 30 points in 31 games. Jokerit is back in action today.
