The four most depressing words in the English language... hockey season is done. Here are some random notes for a hockeyless Monday...

Random Notes

- I keep hearing that the NHL schedule will be announced on June 20th or 21st. Keep an eye out, because we will be announcing the destination of the annual SlapShot Radio road trip soon after the schedule release.

- The Predators have announced a Father’s Day ticket special, purchase 2016-17 Nashville Predators season tickets and receive two complimentary rounds of golf at Hermitage Golf Course, an official Nashville Predators Embroidered Golf Towel and a Predators Polo from the Predators Team Store. Offer is valid through June 19

- Haven’t heard anything about a Preds draft party… well, except the one being planned for June 25th… but I think that is a different kind of draft… :-)

- Speaking of the Entry Draft, SlapShot Radio will be right in the thick of it as we will review Day One of the draft and preview Day Two on Saturday 6/25 from 7a – 9a on a special Saturday edition of SlapShot Radio. Pete Weber will be live at the draft site in Buffalo and I will be holding things down at the studio.

- Congratulations to former Preds Patric Hornqvist and Matt Cullen on winning the Cup last night. And one more time, Pittsburgh is denied winning a championship at home. Heck, if that is the worst problem you have… then smite me with it repeatedly!

- Sorry, but Sidney Crosby’s MVP award was a reputation award… I can think of at least four Pens that deserve it more, starting between the pipes.

- I have to admit… I am very glad that Phil Kessel now has a Cup after being beaten up mercilessly by the clueless Toronto media during (and after) his time there… good on ya Phil!

- It has already begun… the cover of Sportsnet magazine has a picture of Auston Matthews on it with the headline “Auston Matthews to the Rescue” Already hyping the kid beyond all reasonable expectations. SMH.

- The Lake Erie Monsters took the AHL’s Calder Cup on Saturday night, sweeping the Hershey Bears.

- Curious to see where the cap ends up… Bill Daly said it would be “relatively flat.” That could cause some real problems for some teams in cap jail right now… ranges I keep hearing are between $69 – $74 million. A lot depends on if/when the NHLPA invokes the escalator clause and how much.

- I never got to see Gordie Howe in his prime… but considering the times I did see him, I can only imagine what his prime was like. Godspeed Mr. Hockey and rest well.
