The frenzy of July 1 is now calming… the number of signings slowing and teams are taking a log weekend to relax as the US celebrates its’ birthday tomorrow. A few notes…
- Only one signing is official today as of this writing… Mikael Samuelsson has signed with the Canucks, good pickup for them.
- The Rob Scuderi signing was a very good one for the LA Kings. He got the payday he was looking for, a little high, but I suppose that LA needed to overpay a bit.
- The signing of Nik Antropov in Atlanta yesterday should help the Thrashers as they attempt to rebuild.
- The Heatley soap opera continues.
- The news of the impending extension of Rick Nash’s contract is great news for Blue Jacket fans.
- Fans of the Broadway Blueshirts are up in arms… happy they got rid of Gomez and his contract, upset at the signing of Brashear and Gaborik. Gotta wonder what Slats and Torterella are up to at MSG.
- Are the Flyers putting together a new version of the Broad Street Bullies?
Interesting stuff indeed…

Getting ready to head over to Bell Buckle, TN, a small town about an hour south of Nashville that sponsors a very good Shakespeare festival. This weekend they are performing “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, it is a reproduction of last year’s extremely funny show.
For those that are familiar… MSD is supposed to be set in Athens, Greece. This production is set in Athens, Georgia… complete with southern accents and ghosts of Civil Wars soldiers. Quite frankly, it is hysterical… and I’d say that even if my son wasn’t in a lead role… :-)
If you’re in Tennessee and looking for some fun this weekend… go check it out! Their website is www.tennesseeshakespearefestival.com
