It’s the first “Golden Saturday” at Bridgestone Arena as the Edmonton Oilers come a-callin’ for a Hockey Night in Canada game. Remember, it’s a early faceoff at 6pm CT to accommodate the iconic broadcast. The Predators won their opener, the Oilers lost theirs… this is the first Western Conference game for Nashville. This is Smashvile’s only chance to get a look at Connor McDavid in person the other two games of the season series will happen in Edmonton.

Both coaches did a little line shuffling in yesterday’s practice. Edmonton head coach Todd McLellan moved McDavid to the second line with Benoit Pouliot and Lauri Korpifoski and the Predators moved Calle Jarnkrok up to play with Filip Forsberg and Mike Ribiero, James Neal skated with Cody Hodgson and Viktor Arvidsson.

Expect Pekka Rinne between the pipes for Nashville and in goal for the Oilers is a familiar name to southern hockey fans. Former University of Alabama – Huntsville goaltender Cam Talbot id expected to start his second consecutive game after a solid showing in the Oilers opening night loss to St. Louis. Talbot has posted some excellent numbers again Nashville, going 2-1 with a 1.35 GAA and a .939 save percentage.

Again, game time is 6pm… the Predators will debut their new gold helmets, first 10,000 through the gate wearing gold gets a gold foam helmet… coverage on Fox Sports Tennessee, 102.5 the Game and the Predators Radio Network.

Here is a preview of the game from OilersTV.

Random Notes

- Pekka Rinne will break the franchise record for all-time games played by a goaltender next week. The record is held by Tomas Vokoun.

- Nashville swept the season series last year against the Oilers.

- Chicago had their party spoiled Wednesday night, so they turned around and spoiled the party at the first game for the Islanders at Barclay’s Center.

- The Jets are off to a solid start… they completed back-to-back wins last night at Prudential Center.

- Carolina’s James Wisniewski tore his ACL 47 seconds into Thursday’s loss to the Predators and the team announced that the defenseman will be out for six months. Bad break for the Canes

- The NHL and the NHLPA have come to a settlement regarding the termination of Mike Richards contract

- Ruh roh… this was not the start the LA Kings were hoping for. They lost their second in a row on home ice and got completely spanked by the Phoenix Coyotes. Jonathan Quick is rapidly becoming the goat in la-la land.

- Another sign??? The LA Kings signed Peter Budaj yesterday… yikes, desperate times I guess…

- The NHL just doesn’t seem serious about getting hgead hunting out of the game… case number 3,278… no hearing or action on Alex Burmistrov’s elbow on Patrice Bergeron.
