The World Cup is done… now to the real business. The Pred WCH participants survived without injury and camp should be full by Monday as Roman Josi will return to the team after his run with Team Europe. Today’s session at Centennial will be Filip Forsberg and Matias Ekholm’s first of camp.

Meanwhile… the Predators were in Columbus last night, dropping a 3-2 OT decision to the Jackets in overtime. Yup… the 3-on-3 monster reared its’ ugly head last night and traumatized Pred Nation, flashing back to the sense of dread that would overcome Fans of the Fang in overtime.

Actually, last night looked familiar in more ways than overtime. All of the scoring came from the defense as the suddenly prolific Anthony Bitetto posted his third point in two games by getting the scoring started. Then a goal from Weber… yup… Yannick Weber potted his first of the preseason on a nice little snipe. Matt Carle drew some postgame praise, setting up Bitetto’s goal and posting almost 26 minutes of ice time.

Both goaltenders put in solid performances so no real movement in the backup goaltender race.

The Predators are on the ice today and will drop the puck on the home portion of their preseason schedule tomorrow with a 7pm tilt against Tampa Bay. I would expect to see a lot of cuts after tomorrow’s game as the camp stands at 56 right now.

Random Notes

- Countdown to hockey… 1 day to Preds first home preseason game… 5 days to the season premiere of SlapShot Radio… 14 days to Predators season opener.

- Bovada has released their playoff odds… Nashville comes in at a 4/15 shot to make the playoffs.

- The Department of Player Safety has been a little busy lately… suspending Habs forward Andrew Shaw for three meaningless preseason games for boarding Connor Hobbs on Tuesday night. So if one playoff game = three regular season games… what does three preseason games equal?

- Now that the World Cup is done… some well deserve d attention falls on some RFA’s that haven’t been signed, like Johnny Gaudreau, Jacob Trouba and Hampus Lindholm.

- Trouba has asked for a trade from Winnipeg. He wants top line minutes and doesn’t see that happening there.

- Nikita Kucherov is another interesting name. Cap issues are causing havoc with that one in Tampa

- Nine games tonight on the preseason schedule, including one on NHL Network… gee thank heavens they are carrying Pittsburgh/Chicago, heaven knows they don’t get enough TV time.
