Aaron Portzline has reported that the Blue Jackets have made a "low ball" offer to free agent defencemen Christian Ehrhoff.

So he wants to be here and he would be great addition to the blue line as I discussed last week.

A deal hasn't happened yet as Portzline mentions the Jackets don't have much cap space at the moment, just 3.7M per General Fanager.

We don't know exactly what this offer is but considering the cap space I would guess the offer is in the 2.0-2.5M range.

That would represent a 50% drop in salary for Ehrhoff so you can understand why he would wait.

The only way Ehrhoff accepts this offer is if he gets tired of waiting. At this stage however this doesn't seem very likely.

If the Blue Jackets can find a way to clear some cap, they could increase the offer to Ehrhoff and have a more realistic shot at signing him.
