Final Score: Islanders 3 – Blue Jackets 2

Game Summary

Joonas Korpisalo did it again. He didn’t get the win but he was the sole reason the Jackets even got to overtime. The Jackets were outplayed badly from the first period on. The Islanders out shot them significantly 46-31, but as we’ve numerous times this season Korpisalo was up to the task. Unfortunately he couldn’t keep it going in the shootout and the Jackets fell to the Isles 3-2.

Offensively Cam Atkinson and Brandon Dubinsky were up to their usual tricks. They each had a goal and an assist in the first period. Cam’s goal was off a rebound, the puck was loose and players were whacking at it, until it squirted out to Cam who put it in the net. His assist was fantastic. He was coming in on a two on one with Dubi, Cam was looking shot the whole way before at the last moment passing to Dubinsky.

The four points were great but that alone doesn’t do justice to how good those two were tonight. Dubinsky posted the best Corsi on the team at 56.86%, Cam was right behind him at 56.25%. Each player had four scoring chances, tied with Brandon Saad and Boone Jenner for the team lead. All four of Cam’s chances were high danger, which lead the team. He and Dubi combined for six of the teams 14 high danger chances.

There were plenty of scouts at the game (as there always is) and a game like that goes a long way to boosting the trade value of a guy like Cam. He's not someone I think the team should be actively shopping as he's a good player with a good contract. However if the right deal came along (a first round pick??) then I think you have to look at exploring that.

Another player boosting his stock in a quieter way is Fedor Tyutin. He's not putting up flashy offensive totals (or any offensive totals for that matter), but he's been one of the best defenders on the team at pushing the play and limiting shots. Over the last 10 games Tyutin has a very good 55.7% Corsi and a whopping 11% CorsiRel. He could help a team looking to boost their defensive depth.
