Final Score: Panthers 4 – Blue Jackets 3

Game Summary

The Jackets in the second half of a back-to-back were unable to complete the Florida sweep, losing to the Panthers 4-3. Sergei Bobrovsky was again out with an illness so Joonas Korpisalo received his second straight start. This was a very back and forth game with each team controlling the game for stretches. Considering it was a back-to-back and only his second start of the season Korpisalo played well and made some big saves.

The Jackets got things started with a power play goal, but it did not come from the deadly top unit. The second unit is quite good as well and it was Scott Hartnell tipping home his 11th goal of the season.

Ryan Murray puts his shot in the perfect spot through all the traffic and Hartnell is in the right spot to knock it down and into the net.

The Jackets actually held a 2-1 after the first period of this game as Cam Atkinson sniped home his team leading 21st goal of the season.

Atkinson makes a good play to capitalize on a bad zone clear by the Panthers defence. His 21 goals are tied for third in the NHL with Ovechkin, Matthews, and Laine, yet somehow he’s not an All-Star. He has two goals in three games since the team was announced. He’s clearly out to show that was wrong choice.

The Jackets fell behind 4-2 but Boone Jenner made things interesting in the third. His eighth of the season made it 4-3.

It’s not the prettiest goal but they all count just the same. Boone looks to just throwing it on net and caught a break as it went in. He does well to use the defencemen as a screen adding some deception to the shot. That is Boone’s second goal in as many games.

That is as close as the Blue Jackets would come as they lose just their ninth game in regulation this season.
