Final Score: Blue Jackets 3 – Stars 0

Game Summary

The Blue Jackets fresh off of their first victory of the season, kept their winning ways up with a strong performance in Dallas. Dallas is one of the best teams in the league and very good at home, this was not a game the Blue Jackets were expected to be in. Sergei Bobrovsky though had other ideas blanked the Stars, as the Jackets won 3-0.

Bobrovsky was the story of this game. He shut-out the best offense in the NHL. The Stars lead the NHL last season with 265 goals. They have a juggernaut with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin leading the way. Those two combined for nine of Dallas’ 32 shots, and many of them were top scoring opportunities. Bobrovsky set the tone of the game early with a huge stop on Benn in the first minute of the game. From that point on Bob was locked in stopping all 32 of Dallas’ shots including six on the power play. This was a game the Jackets had no business being and Bobrovsky stole them a victory.

Josh Anderson scored the Jackets first goal. He finished off a pretty passing play from Boone Jenner and Seth Jones. The Blue Jackets had a four on two and executed it perfectly, with just enough passes to give Anderson an open net and he made no mistake.

Right before the goal as you can see in the gif above, the refs got tied up causing Dallas to lose the puck. This broke up an odd man rush for the Stars. This was a very unfortunate break for the Stars, and they obviously weren’t happy. With the way Bob was playing it might not have mattered though.

Anderson has quietly been quite good this season. He has already scored two goals, after just one in his 18 prior NHL games. He’s showing the Jackets they made the right choice putting him on the fourth line and waiving Gregory Campbell. He brings some skill to the fourth line, and has provided some depth scoring in the early part of the season.

Scott Hartnell scored the Jackets second goal. William Karlsson made a great pass though the crease, Josh Anderson was able to draw the attention of the other defencemen leaving Hartnell alone in the circle one on one with the goalie. He fired a perfect shot blocker side to give the Jackets a two goal lead.

Zach Werenski’s point streak continued. He picked up a secondary assist on that goal. He now had five points in four games and a ridiculous 16 shots. He’s handling top competition, he played close to six minutes at 5 on 5 against the Benn and Seguin line, and has been thriving, he held that line to under 20% Corsi. He is everything you want in a top defencemen and he is only four games into his NHL career.
