Final Score: Hurricanes 3 – Blue Jackets 1

Game Summary

The Jackets are skidding right now. They have gone 0-3-1 in their four, and have scored just two goals in their last two games. Of these last four games this most recent one was by far the worst. In the three games prior they were at least competitive. They had the possession advantage against the Rangers and Predators, and scored four goals to steal a point against the Lightning. Against the Hurricanes there was none of this. The Hurricanes dominated right from the get go. They had a 64.86% Corsi in the first period and finished the game at 55.79%.

If not for the stellar play of Sergei Bobrovsky this game could of got out of hand. As per usual Bobrovksy made a ton of big saves to keep the game close. The Jackets were very fortunate to come out of the first period with a lead.

The Jackets got their lead on a great play by Tyler Motte and Brandon Dubinsky.

Motte has been very impressive since his recall. He has three points in six games and is quickly becoming a favourite of John Tortorella. Motte plays hard, he's tenacious on the fore-check, and in this game he was one of just five Blue Jackets to be a positive possession player.
If there is a silver lining to a game like this it’s that the Jackets made the most of their limited time with the puck. At 5 on 5 they were actually able to out chance the Hurricanes.

The Jackets problem was a lack of finish. For a team that’s having issues finding the back of the net it doesn’t make much sense for them to scratch their second highest scorer, but that’s the situation Sonny Milano finds himself in. Milano is tied for second on the team with five goals and was a healthy scratch for this game. Yes those goals came at the start of the season, but this is a player who when he's hot can create offense. The 11 forward seven defencemen was a nice thing to try but it’s not working. Gabriel Carlsson has played under 10 minutes in his last three games. The team needs to send him down to Cleveland where he can play 20+ minutes a night. Right now this is not helping his development nor is it helping Milano’s having him in the press box.
