It’s official the Monsters will be looking for a new Head Coach as Jared Bednar has been hired by the Colorado Avalanche. Darren Dreger had the report first.

That was shortly followed by confirmation from the team itself.

There were some big names in the coaching mix for this job but ultimately Bednar got the position and very likely what put him over the top were his connections in the Avalanche organization. Nolan Pratt was an assistant coach under Bednar with the Monsters and was hired to be an assistant before Patrick Roy left The Avalanche’s assistant general manager, Chris MacFarland was previously the Jackets assistant GM and worked closely with Bednar.

Bednar will be a great fit with the Avalanche who have plenty of young skilled players. Bednar was great with the Monsters and their youth. His shouldn’t have to change his coaching style much in Colorado.

The question now is where do the Monsters go from here? It’s late in the off-season so odds are against them finding a new coach from outside the organization. I would guess someone from within; likely an assistant coach gets promoted and takes that spot.

It sucks losing a good coach like this, but that’s what happens when you have a successful team like the Monsters. Wish Bednar nothing but the best and hopefully he can continue to find success with his new team.
