The Islanders allowed 51 shots in Tuesday’s 4-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, the first of three crucial divisional games this week. But it’s the one shot following the game that has fans fluming.

Looking towards Thursday night’s game against the Rangers, head coach Doug Weight commented on the atmosphere Tuesday night. “We’ll have a real exciting, hopefully, little more exciting building than it was today from the start on Thursday,” he said. Accountability, the Islanders way.

Weight should know better, the former Islanders captain has been with the organization since the glory days of 2008. This fanbase has been crapped on long enough, first by their general manager, the smug Garth Snow, and now by their head coach. Fans, who some travel over two hours each way and spend their hard-earned money to watch this inferior product, deserve better. Fans, who haven’t seen a Game 1 of a playoff series in their home building since before Weight was even drafted.

Kelly Hrduey, who was the starting goaltender the last time the Islanders won the division and has home-ice advantage in 1988, just became a grandfather.

Weight, who as an assistant coach and general manager, saw both the Nassau Coliseum and Barclays Center rock during the playoffs, needs to give their fanbase a reason to cheer. In fact, Weight was wrong about last night, the 10,232 faithful had a very loud “Snow must go” chant in the third period.

It seems like Weight is completely in over his head now. He has zero answers on how to fix the Isles woes. There are zero reinforcements coming, thanks to Snow. In fact, the longtime GM may become a seller at the February 26 deadline.

This could be the beginning of Weight's exit strategy.
