The New Jersey Devils have claimed forward P.A. Parenteau off waivers from the Islanders today.

Parenteau was unexpectedly waived on Monday. The 33-year-old signed an one-year deal with the Islanders in the summer.

The Islanders assigned defensemen Ryan Pulock and Adam Pelech to Bridgeport. The duo (not counting the Barzal and Beauvillier) were the only players on the roster who did not require waivers. The team will go with six defensemen to start the season. For the team it was an easy decision. They are unwilling to part with both Alan Quine and Jean-Berube, who both would need to be waived in order to be sent to Bridgeport.

Pulock's stay in Bridgeport should be as long as Anders Lee's was couple of seasons ago. Lee was called up after six games. The bottom line is that Pulock should be up and playing, plan and simple. It was evident what he can do during the playoffs. If power play starts the season cold, expect Pulock up and quarterbacking it.

In what's becomes comical, the Islanders have placed forward Eric Boulton on injured reserve. They flipped a coin and it landed on tails, which mean a lower-body injury.

Those three moves trimmed the roster to 23. 2015 first-round picks Mathew Barzal and Anthony Beauvillier made the team. Just going by practice today, Beauvillier should begin the season with Brock Nelson and Anders Lee. Barzal was the extra forward. I would imagine that the two will rotate in the lineup. They have nine game to convince Garth Snow and Jack Capuano that they belong the entire season.

Jason Chimera skated with the John Tavares and Andrew Ladd in practice today. I cannot imagine this will be long term. It does give Tavares some muscle though.

In what had Isles Twitter freaking out earlier, Jaroslav Halak is ill did not practice today. Capuano said he will know more tomorrow if Halak can play in the season opener against the Rangers. This is why Berube was not waived. Who we kidding, if Halak was fine Berube would still be here.
