The Islanders look to avoid losing consecutive games in regulation for the first time this season when they face the Florida Panthers in Sunrise tonight. New York lost a wild one Friday night against the Ottawa Senators, 6-5.
When they look over to the Panthers bench, they will see a familiar face in former head coach Jack Capuano, who was fired last January. Capuano was hired as an assistant coach in the offseason.
Jaroslav Halak will get the start tonight. Halak replaced Thomas Greiss Friday night. Greiss looked extremely shaky. Halak has played well the last few games. Greiss will get in this week, probably tomorrow in Tampa as the Isles have three games in four nights.
The defensive carousel continues as Thomas Hickey replaces Dennis Seidenberg. Casey Cizikas was placed on injured reserve yesterday and did not make the trip to Sunrise. Head coach Doug Weight said Cizikas will likely join the team on this trip. They will not add anyone to the active roster just yet as they wait for an update on Cizikas's status.
The Buffalo Sabres have placed forward Matt Moulson on waivers today. The former Islander is pointless in 14 games this season and was a constant healthy scratch lately. He has another year left on his contract at $5 million. A reunion with the Islanders is not expected.
