The Islanders rang in the New Year by shaking up their roster. The team announced that forwards Anthony Beauvillier and Steve Bernier have to sent to Bridgeport.

Beauvillier has struggled for most of the season. The 20-year-old has four goals and three assists in 31 games this season, well behind the 24 points in 66 games he had in his rookie season. A stint in Bridgeport can only help.

Bernier was recalled when Josh Ho-Sang was sent down. Bernier was scoreless in four games.

Forward Tanner Fritz was recalled. The 26-year-old is fifth in the AHL with 35 points. This is a well-earned call up for the undrafted Fritz. Check out the piece I did on Fritz last month. Perhaps Fritz’s style of play will inspire the bottom-six forwards, namely Brock Nelson.

The Islanders still have an open roster spot.
