New York Islanders special advisor George McPhee will be named the general manager of the Las Vegas expansion franchise. McPhee has officially been with the Islanders since last September.
McPhee served as the Washington Capitals general manager from 1997-2014. Perhaps his biggest move as Caps GM was sending Filip Forsberg to Nashville for Martin Erat. The Caps did advance to their lone Stanley Cup appearance in 1998 under McPhee.
Perhaps Garth Snow and McPhee can come to an understanding at the expansion draft next June not to take certain players and can send certain contracts to Vegas.
