The Islanders let a golden opportunity to upgrade their bottom-six forwards today pass through their fingers today as Jussi Jokinen was claimed by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Jokinen was waived by the Los Angeles Kings yesterday.

The Blue Jackets, like the Islanders, are dealing with their share of injuries as Brandon Dubinsky, Cam Atkinson, and now Sonny Milano are all out long term. The difference is, Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen is willing to help his team while his players are out.

The Islanders did not have a fourth-line center in last night's loss to the Devils. They once again only dressed 11 forwards, two of which were AHL forwards. Shane Prince left the game in the second period and had to move Thomas Hickey to the wing.

Jokinen, by no means will replace Cizikas or Nikolay Kulemin. The Blue Jackets are his third team of the season. His possession numbers are nothing to write home about. He does win face-offs, something that the Islanders have issues with.

Unlike Kekalainen, Garth Snow is willing to wait for his players to heal and hope that the players, who are struggling, play to their ability. The problem is, Alan Quine's ability is best suited for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
