Larry Brooks of the NY Post believes the Rangers are looking for a depth forward and thinks that someone who played previously for head coach Alain Vigneault would be a good fit.

Which brings us to the semi-notorious Alexandre Burrows, the soon-to-be 35-year-old who spent much of his career in Vancouver playing with and riding shotgun for the Sedins (Henrik and Daniel) while Vigneault was behind the bench. This season, he most often has played with talented young studs Bo Horvat and Sven Baertschi.

Burrows once bit off more than he could chew in a seven-game defeat to a less talented Bruins team in the 2011 final in which the Canucks were strangely muted over the final five games. It should serve the coach as a reminder sandpaper is an essential ingredient for a championship.

THE BUZZ – The Rangers are better off than most, with $2.2 Million of salary cap space heading towards the deadline.

Burrows is a $4.5 Million cap hit, which would mean that New York would have to send a salary back to Vancouver, have the Canucks retain money to make the deal work or dump a contract to another team to make room.

New York is said to have interest in St. Louis defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk, but unless they were able to move a big salary off their roster, they cannot make two trades that would result in taking on so much salary.

The Blackhawks are looking to add a winger who does not have a hefty price tag but can be a scoring option for center Jonathan Toews Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times believes the best fit is a veteran of the Central Division having a career year.

But while Hawks fans dream of a Patrick Sharp reunion, the best option is Dallas’ Patrick Eaves. The 32-year-old veteran winger is having a career season with 21 goals and 14 assists. And he’s on a one-year, $1 million deal, which even the Hawks could afford.

THE BUZZ – Eaves had 20 goals as a rookie with Ottawa back in 2006, but has been considered more of a checker and defensive forward than a scorer in his 12 year career.

The $1 Million salary may be very attractive to Hawks GM Stan Bowman, but slightly more a expensive option like Thomas Vanek would be a better fit to play with Toews and Hossa.

A Sharp reunion in Chicago makes a lot of sense, but his $5.9 Million cap hit will be tough to squeeze under the cap.
