NHL Rumor Buzz is Hockeybuzz’s version of an aggregator blog, similar to Spectorshockey.net or MyNHLTradeRumors. It is the home for the latest NHL trade rumors from other mainstream sources and websites other than Hockeybuzz. On Hockey Night in Canada’s Saturday Night Headlines , Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos and Elliotte Friedman report on that the recent struggles of youngster Sam Bennett in Calgary have drawn trade inquiries from league GM’s (which Flames GM Brad Treliving has shot down), but not to rule out the possibility of Bennett asking to be traded, since they have not found a position for him.

THE BUZZ – Bennett is just 20 and enduring a rough sophomore year after scoring 18 goals as a rookie. The problem is that Calgary cannot seem to decide with he is a center or a winger and have continued to shift him between positions for his first two seasons.

The 2014 fourth overall pick is a building block for the Flames in the last year of his entry level contract, which means it would take a lot for them to move him with four years of control before hitting free agency (reference Tampa and what they were asking for Jonathan Drouin).

Don’t hold your breath for Calgary to trade Bennett.

On the Kevin Shattenkirk situation in St. Louis:

St. Louis GM Doug Armstrong wants to shake up his roster before making a more desperate move such as relieving coach Ken Hitchcock in his final season.

That could begin with trading pending UFA Shattenkirk for future assets. The Blues let Troy Brouwer and David Backes walk in free agency and got nothing but cap space in return. They are likely not going to let that happen again.

Friedman offered up a swap of pending UFA’s with Tampa Bay, Shattenkirk for Ben Bishop, which would address an area of need for both teams.

THE BUZZ – In spite of the subpar performance of Jake Allen this season, the Blues are more than a goaltender away from being able to match up to Chicago or Minnesota in the Central Division.

A deal for Bishop (a Blues draft pick in 2005) would only be a stopgap move. An asset like Shattenkirk could bring back two or three prospects/draft picks in a market desperate for top-four defensemen.
