It’s Thanksgiving Thursday here in Western New York, which means an entire morning and afternoon staring into the oven waiting for the damn turkey to be done and occasionally checking in on some meaningless NFL games, since the Bills are not scheduled to lose until Sunday.

With the Leafs and the rest of the NHL not in action until Friday, it is a good time to check on the progress of the club’s prospects. This list encompasses all players who Toronto has rights to currently playing in the OHL, QMJHL, WHL, NCAA and Europe, not those playing in the NHL, AHL or ECHL.

2017 Draft

Rasanen leads the OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs in defensive scoring with 15 points, but has been out the last two games with an undisclosed injury. The 6’7” 208 lb. defenseman played for Finland in the World Junior Summer Showcase in August and may be selected to play for his country at the 2018 WJC in Buffalo next month.

The Leafs fourth round pick is splitting time with Curtis Meger with the WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders. Scott began the season with six wins in his first eight games, but the 18-year-old has lost three straight and allowed seven goals on 48 shots in a 7-0 loss to Spokane on Saturday.

Little was known about the 19-year-old Kara when he was selected in the fourth round by Toronto, but the 6’1” center scored six goals for Ak Bars Kazan’s VHL affiliate, played seven KHL games this season and played for Russia in the CHL Super Series earlier this month.

The Toronto-born Gordeev had only 13 points in 62 games with the Flint Firebirds of the OHL last year and has nearly reached that mark in less than half a season with three goals and six assists in 22 games.

The Leafs sixth round pick is on pace to eclipse his OHL career-high of 27 before Christmas. The 18-year-old center has scored in five straight games for the Sting, who lead the West Division with a 19-4-1 record.

The 6’1” 208 lb. blueliner is a long-term project who played two seasons for St. Andrew’s College and has 13 points for the Penticton Vees of the BCHL. O’Connell is headed to Boston University next season.

Part II on Friday
