UPDATE- 5pm

Here are the moves the Toronto Maple Leafs made to get down to 23 players on Tuesday:

Toronto loaned forward Brooks Laich to the Toronto Marlies, designated forward Josh Leivo as an injured non-roster player and released Brandon Prust from his professional tryout contract.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have claimed forward Seth Griffith off waivers from the Boston Bruins.

The 23-year-old center/right winger played four seasons for Mark Hunter with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League and scored 77 points (24 goals, 53 assists) in 57 games with the Providence Bruins.

The 5'9", 192 lb Griffith played 30 games for the Bruins in 2014-15, scoring six goals and four assists in 30 games and could be a fit on the Maple Leafs fourth line unit at center or right wing.

With the claim of Griffith, Toronto has 26 players on their NHL roster and must get to 23 by 5pm Tuesday. Veteran Brooks Laich can be sent to the AHL after clearing waivers, but practiced with the club along with unsigned veteran Brandon Prust at the MasterCard Center in Etobicoke, ON on Tuesday.

Forward Josh Leivo did not practice and could be headed to injured reserve having missed all but one game during the exhibition season with an undisclosed injury.

One roster move that would not risk a waiver claim and could make sense with the acquisition of Griffith is sending winger Connor Brown to the AHL. The 22-year-old former OHL scoring champion is waiver exempt and has a skill set more conducive to a top-nine role, rather than an energy role with Laich, Matt Martin and/or Peter Holland.

Head coach Mike Babcock indicated that the club will make their final roster decisions by 3pm today, before departing for Ottawa and their season opener against the Senators on Wednesday.
