Leafs Claim Corrado, Place Panik On Waivers, Demote Harrington |

The Toronto Maple Leafs have claimed defenseman Frankie Corrado from the Vancouver Canucks and has placed forward Richard Panik on waivers.
Corrado, 22, is a Toronto native selected in the 5th round (150th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft and has split time between the Canucks and their AHL affiliate in Utica the last two seasons.
The Leafs opened up a spot for Corrado by waiving Panik, who Toronto claimed off of waivers almost year ago from the Tampa Bay Lightning. The 24-year-old Slovakian scored 11 goals and six assists in 76 games, playing mostly on the third and fourth line, but did not stand out during training camp and lost his spot to veteran Brad Boyes and Mark Arcobello.
It is possible that Panik could sneak through waivers and be assigned to the AHL Toronto Marlies, but making $975,000 and providing some scoring as a bottom six forward could be enticing for a team in need.
The club also demoted defenseman Scott Harrington to get down to 23 players, who was exempt from waivers, but his move could just be until Wednesday if Toronto places defenseman Stephane Robidas on injured reserve with a knee/groin problem that has dogged the veteran throughout training camp.

The Toronto Marlies have named defenseman Andrew Campbell as the club's new team captain, according to
reporter Kyle Cicerella .
The 27-year-old Campbell was signed to a two-year, two-way contract extension last week.
