Fueled by optimism and a 6-1 start, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been listed as having the best odds of winning the Stanley Cup by Bodog.

The online gambling website has the Maple Leafs at 8-1 odds to win their first Stanley Cup. Tampa Bay, who leads the league with 13 points is listed at 9-1, while the Chicago Blackhawks, Edmonton Oilers, and consecutive Stanley Cup winner Pittsburgh Penguins are at 12-1.

“It’s great, we’re pleased with the way we’ve been able to start the season. We’re just thinking about winning tomorrow and then winning the game after that.” Morgan Rielly said at the MasterCard Centre on Friday. “We’re not looking about odds. I don’t know too much about that, but I think when you’re the favorite, that means you’re doing something right.”

That optimism of being the favorite may be music to the ears of Leafs fans who are hungry for a championship, but head coach Mike Babcock would prefer to keep his club focused and more grounded in reality just two weeks into the season.

“Seven games doesn’t make a season, it doesn’t even make up two segments.” Babcock said prior to the club departing for Ottawa. “We’ve won two games in this segment (and) we’re going to try to get better.”

The Leafs practiced in preparation for their first meeting with the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Center in Kanata, ON on Saturday and kept the same line combinations that played together against Detroit, with the exception of the regular rotation of Eric Fehr and Dominic Moore.

Fehr played on Wednesday, so it is probable that Moore will be in the lineup against Toronto’s provincial rivals. Andreas Borgman continued to skate with Connor Carrick on the bottom pairing at practice and Babcock indicated that the hard-hitting Swede will go for the second straight game against the Sens.

Brad Marchand has made a career out of being a pest on the ice, and apparently is branching out to the world of social media to display his annoying qualities, as the Boston Bruins forward decided on Friday to take a swipe at the Toronto media coverage of Auston Matthews.

Matthews, who was teammates with Marchand during last year’s All-Star game, found the comment humorous.

“It was pretty funny. Matthews said. It kind of took me by surprise that he tweeted that."
