Former 1st round draft pick
Brian Boyle has been dealt to the NY Rangers in exchange for the Rangers 3rd round draft pick in 2010.
The 6'7 centerman was originally drafted 26th overall in 2003. "He's a project" Kings GM Dave Taylor said at the time. Boyle played 4 seasons at Boston College scoring 65 goals and 75 assists.
The Kings at one time asked him to play defense, which he did for a time, but went back to being a centerman.
He showed much promise in his first season in Manchester, scoring 31 goals, and 31 assists in 70 games. He was called up to the NHL at the end of 2008 and scored 4 goals and 1 assist in 8 games but failed to win a spot in the lineup the following season.
"I’ve had this discussion with his agent because obviously his contract is up" Lombardi told me last week. "I said “what do you want me to do? The job was there last year and he didn’t grab it”. He had to go back down (to Manchester), and to his credit, he fought his way back and at the end he played pretty well. But it is time. He’s from Brownie’s draft. It’s time here. We’ll see."
