Since the end of the season, I wrote a couple blogs about the needs of the team, what I would do to fill out the 09-10 roster and even went out on a limb with some specific trade ideas.

GM Jim Rutherford has often been one to skip the expensive frenzy and hoopla that happens this weekend and in the few days around July 1st, but the next 10 or so days are definitely the busiest around the league.

So what do the Canes do this weekend?
--Quietly go about drafting the next set of youngsters and little else?
--Swing a big trade for 1 of the couple top-half-of-the-roster needs that they have?
--Maybe just make a smaller trade or 2 to cut a little money and make more roster space for kids to step in this fall?
--Or?

My 2 cents says that most likely outcome is a quiet weekend, but who knows...

I will leave this open for a place to debate anything that does happen in case I am out doing summer stuff and am not the 1st to catch the news.
