So far Brian Murray has continued his trend as being a phenomenal drafter and lousy trader.
We saw last, that Jared Cowen fell right into our laps. This guy was slated last summer to rival Hedman as the top defenseman in the draft until he torn up his knee.
It'll interesting to see how he has healed and what level is game is at come fall.
Onto our other draft picks,
RW/LW - Jacob Silfverberg - 6'1" 187lbs
Silfverberg is a strong skating two-way forward with good hockey sense. He is a very smart and mature player and is solid both offensively and defensively. Silfverberg has good technical skills and plays with plenty of intensity. His shot is quick, but could be more accurate and he does not really play very physical. - Eliteprospects.com
Silfverberg is signed with Brynas for the next 2 years.
G - Robin Lehner - 6'3" 220lbs
A butterfly goalie with excellent size and good overall skills. Uses his big frame to his advantage and challenges the shooters, although perhaps not with the desired consistency. Rebound control is somewhat suspicious, but overall mobility quite impressive for a big guy. Moves pretty well side to side and is tough to beat down low. - Eliteprospects.com
Lehner is also the son of Hendrik Lundquist's Goalie coach in Sweden, so just to give you an idea of this kids potential. Oh and he was the top-rated European goalie.
Scouts on Lehner and Silfverberg
D - Chris Wideman - 5'10" 170lbs
A fairly unknown prospect, to the point he wasn't at the actual draft from what I understand.
But he registered 26 assists in 39 games, as a freshman for Miama U (Ohio), so that is a very promising sign for Ottawa fans as it gives us another PMD in our system
C/LW -
Mike Hoffman - 5'11" 175lbs
52 goals, 42 assists in his breakout year for Drummondville of the QMJHL, Mike cemented himself a slot this season in the draft after being passed over last year.
From what I've read and seen on him, Hoffman looks to be a great steal for Ottawa, who could potentially be a top-six forward.
Hoffman is looking to make the jump to atleast the AHL next season. So if he keeps it up we could have a roster player with-in 2 years from him. Not bad for a 5th rounder.
Post-draft interview with Hoffman-
LW - Jeff Costello - 6'0" 190lbs
From NHL.com
• Costello will suit up for the Fighting Irish at the University of Notre Dame in 2010.
• He got started in hockey at the age of three, first by rollerblading, to try and keep up with his two older brothers.
• Growing up in Milwaukee, and playing his minor hockey in Chicago, he often commuted 90 minutes to play and credits his dad for having the biggest influence on his career – “he hauled me around all over the country to help me pursue my dream”.
• His childhood hockey idol was Pavel Bure and he follows the motto “pain is temporary, victory is forever”.
• In 2003, while playing for the Chicago Young Americans in a tournament in Toronto, Ontario, Costello finished second in a skills competition to
Steven Stamkos.
Hard to tell what this kid is capable of, he didn't have a truely great season in USHL, but the scouts really liked this kid and had him rated at 50th best N.A. skater.
LW - Corey Cowick - 6'2" 201lbs
A big part of the 67's last season, Cowick used his 3rd OHL season to display his two-way ability.
It really shouldn't be a surprise to any Sens fans why this kid was picked by Ottawa, only surprise is why he fell to far enough for us to grab.
LW - Brad Peltz - 6'1" 185lbs
Sadly, I have been un-able to find any stats on him or a profile, so heres another video
D - Micheal Sdao - 6'4" 221lbs
Simply a big body. He just levels other players, fights and causes general mayhem. While he was our 7th pick, he may see NHL ice-time before a lot of the others.
Sdao could be the shutdown replacement for Phillips, when he leaves.

Hard to say whats happened with Murray and Heatley,
I been told everything and anything over the last 24 hours, but nothing conrete enough to be worth posting.
Minny and the Rangers are reportedly the big 2, problem is both teams want Ottawa to take a bit of salary.
