Before ramping up the offseason fantasy blogs I thought it would be interesting to look at the top 2 picks from each of the last eight National Hockey League drafts.
2010 Draft:
1. Taylor Hall
2. Tyler Seguin
2011 Draft:
1. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
2. Gabriel Landeskog
2012 Draft:
1. Nail Yakupov
2. Ryan Murray
2013 Draft:
1. Nathan MacKinnon
2. Aleksander Barkov
2014 Draft:
1. Aaron Ekblad
2. Sam Reinhart
2015 Draft:
1. Connor McDavid
2. Jack Eichel
2016 Draft:
1. Auston Matthews
2. Patrik Laine
2017 Draft:
1. Nico Hischier
2. Nolan Patrick
Obviously it will be easier to grade the talent we have seen play for a number of years over the freshly drafted talent in Hischier and Patrick, but from a fantasy perspective it matters not. It’s all about which of these players would rank highest in your pools going into next season and of course a little bit of summer fun.
It’s without a doubt I’m going to rank Connor McDavid number one even if I am a Leafs fan, it’s all about being honest with yourself when you are doing fantasy. After all, you are in it to win, and have some fun along the way.
Ranks for fantasy:
1. Connor McDavid
2. Auston Matthews
3. Tyler Seguin
4. Patrik Laine
5. Jack Eichel
6. Aleksander Barkov
7. Taylor Hall
8. Nathan MacKinnon
9. Aaron Ekblad
10. Nico Hischier
11. Nolan Patrick
12. Sam Reinhart
13. Gabriel Landeskog
14. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
15. Ryan Murray
16. Nail Yakupov
How would you rank the top 16 players drafted (1-2 overall) in the last 8 NHL Drafts?
Soon I will begin going over potential rookie sensations, sophomore sizzlers and some breakout players to mention for drafting purposes as there is a lot of information to cover and August is just around the corner.
Hope you had a successful fantasy season last year and can build off it this year. I will be discussing rotisserie, head-to-head and keeper pools as well as giving some insight for the HockeyBuzz SuperLeague (HBSL).
Enjoy your day, thanks for reading.
