The month of August is never a big one in the hockey world so why not add some excitement with a breakdown of each team. There may be days when more than one team is looked at in depth, but they will all be included at some point in the month of August.

To mix things up a bit I am going to start reverse alphabetically and begin with the Winnipeg Jets.

Top 5 fantasy forwards:
Mark Scheifele
Blake Wheeler
Patrik Laine
Nikolaj Ehlers
Bryan Little

Top 3 fantasy defense:
Dustin Byfuglien
Jacob Trouba
Josh Morrissey

Goaltending:
Steve Mason
Connor Hellebuyck

Sleeper:
Kyle Connor

There is no doubt that the Jets have some serious firepower up front, especially if my sleeper pick Kyle Connor explodes out of the gates on the second line with Little and Wheeler. I’d also assume that Connor gets slotted in on the second power play and has a 40-50 point season as the Jets try to get themselves on track and back into the playoffs.

Last season Winnipeg was without Jacob Trouba for a good chunk at the start of the season. Some issues there but there is no doubt that Trouba is a gamer and he should have no problems getting in the 45-50 point range if he stays healthy and this high octane offense can continue to put the puck in the net.

Byfuglien should be good for his 50 points and 100+ penalty minutes, he’s an absolute beast on the ice and rarely misses games. Obviously the Jets will need their number one defender to get the job done if they want to take the next step forward.

I’m not so sure about this Steve Mason addition considering the Jets have Hellebuyck eager to take over and establish himself on a more consistent basis. Hell, they even have Hutchinson signed as a backup for this season at 1.15 million and goalie prospect Eric Comrie has a good chance to become an NHL goalie (he’s RFA at seasons end).

The Jets need to figure out their goaltending situation and I guess they are hoping a new team will help the south paw Mason get back to his winning ways. Personally, I’d prefer Hellebuyck but that’s just me.

The Jets will have a number of young players trying to make a name for themselves so keep an eye on the onslaught of young forwards they will be icing for keeper leagues. The Jets will have 7 forwards who are RFA by seasons end, including goaltender Connor Hellebuyck.

Thanks for reading, enjoy your day!
