At this point in the season you should be quite happy with your roster, as long as you are not rebuilding a gutter keeper team. There is always some risk involved when making a trade, or dropping a player for a free agent that is hot. You never know when that producing player is going to cool down and when someone else will heat up.

One thought is to try and read what a players output would be. You can look at past years performances, shot percentage, what line they are on (perhaps someone is injured and returning soon), whatever the case may be, you want to try and trade this player when they are worth the most.

For example, right now I would imagine that Artem Anisimov’s value would be at an all-time high. Whereas players like Torey Krug, his value is at an all-time low. The key here is to not get too mixed up in the numbers that are present now, but down the road. Some veteran players take longer to get the wheels going than the young guns that are fully prepared coming out of training camp to ensure they are able to secure a roster spot.

Keep active eyes for any goalies getting hurt and pounce on that team’s backup if you feel they will help your team. When you see an injury to a player in the top six, try to see who slots into that position after the injury, that player may go from a 35-40 point getter, to a 50 point player by moving up into a bigger role.

Any trade questions feel free to inquire in the comments section or sent me a private message.
