Waiving Tropp the right decision?

Corey Tropp has been waived by the Sabres. In order for him to play for the Amerks, he'll have to clear waivers. Tropp has been playing on the 4th line for the most part this season, and has registered just one assist and is a -8.

Tropp hasn't been playing well, but there are other on the team who could have been waived instead. I'd rather see Tropp playing in Rochester, if he clears that is. If any other team claims him, that could certainly hurt the Sabres.

The Sabres have also added Kevin Prendergast to their scouting staff. Here's the release:
“Kevin is a very respected and well-connected talent evaluator in many different hockey circles,” LaFontaine said. “His keen eye for hockey talent, combined with his experience in the game at a multitude of levels, will be a tremendous addition to our hockey operations staff and we are proud to welcome him to the Buffalo Sabres organization.”

Prendergast most recently served as the head scout for Hockey Canada’s men’s Program of Excellence, where he was responsible for all player evaluation and recruitment for Canada’s National Junior and Under-18 development and selection camps, as well as for evaluations with the Under-17 program.

Prior to his stint with Hockey Canada, Prendergast worked for 20 seasons in the Edmonton Oilers organization, joining the club in 1990-91 as its vice president of hockey operations and eventually taking on the title of assistant general manager in 2006-07. As part of his duties with the Oilers, Prendergast oversaw the Oilers’ pro and amateur scouting staffs, coordinating coverage of the NHL, AHL and ECHL as well as the major junior teams of the Canadian Hockey League, the U.S. collegiate and high school ranks and the European leagues. He also was the Oilers’ representative on the American Hockey League’s board of governors and serves as the director of player personnel for both the Springfield Falcons (AHL) and Stockton Thunder (ECHL).

Prendergast also worked with NHL Central Scouting, from 1983-84 – 1989-90, where he was responsible for all scouting assignments and scheduling while also scouting the three major junior hockey leagues. He also worked with Team Canada in preparation for the 1988 Olympic Winter Games in Calgary.

Matt D'Agostini has been claimed. Here's the release on him:

Buffalo Sabres president of hockey operations Pat LaFontaine today announced the team has claimed forward Matt D’Agostini off of waivers.

D’Agostini (10/23/86, 6'0", 198 lbs), who was waived by the Pittsburgh Penguins yesterday, has played in eight games with Pittsburgh in 2013-14, recording an assist and four penalty minutes. He joined the Penguins at the start of the season after signing a one-year contract in July.

Prior to the Penguins, D’Agostini played for the Montreal Canadiens (2007-08 – 2009-10), St. Louis Blues (2009-10 – 2012-13) and the New Jersey Devils (2012-13). He has notched 96 points (47+49) through 275 career games in the NHL.

A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, D’Agostini was drafted by Montreal in the sixth round (190th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

I like the claim of D'Agostini, but not the waive of Tropp. We knew there were going to be some more changes coming, especially if players didn't start playing, but didn't expect these two.

We'll have to wait and see if Tropp clears waivers. Was it the right move? I don't see why John Scott wasn't picked rather than Tropp.

The Sabres are hosting the Canadiens tonight. I am considering running another live chat for this one.

As always, thank you for reading!
