Sabres sign Drew Bagnall

It's been a quiet day for Buffalo, but busy around the NHL. Tonight, the Sabres have reached a two year deal with Drew Bagnall. He's a solid depth defenseman and it's not a bad signing. It's not the type of transaction Sabres fans had planned for today, though.

Unless I missed something, I believe that makes Washington the only team that hasn't done a single thing today...I could be wrong.

I've never been so uninterested in free agency day before. I didn't expect the Sabres to do anything, and so far, they haven't. I think that's a good thing.

I spent the day away from my phone and computer after looking at Twitter earlier. It was just tons of Sabres fans complaining that the team has done nothing. Who said they had to? Buffalo is better off sitting back right now, anyway. I admit there are some players who were signed today that I would have liked the Sabres to take a run at, but we're in a much different situation than previous years.

I like that they haven't done anything today. Regier stuck to what he said in that he doesn't need to make a big splash in free agency. Rather, some small additions that will help this team in the future.

There's crazy money being spent and big name players going all over the place, but Buffalo is just sitting tight right now, and I think that's necessary. It shows that the organization is committed to a full, legitimate rebuild. Signing someone to a big contract today would basically change the entire game plan.

They always have the option of trading and improving that way. I still think they will sign one or two players via free agency, but trading may work out best for the Sabres.

There have been rumors today between Buffalo and St.Louis that involved Ryan Miller. I could see him going there and would actually really like the Blues to get Miller. For some reason, I've always liked that team. I don't know what it is, but I do like how they have been over the past few years especially.

A few quotes today that I saw were about how Regier's price for Miller was too high. Goaltenders are being signed quick, and it's leaving Buffalo with fewer and fewer options. Miller only has one year remaining on his contract, so maybe he does end up staying and playing it out.

Better yet, I think Regier should cut his losses and find a way to trade him. At this point, get what you can for Miller and move on. A couple young players and picks would benefit a rebuilding team.

As always, thank you for reading!
