Can Corey Tropp earn a spot on the Sabres roster?

First off, Corey Tropp is still a restricted free agent.

I'm a big fan of Corey Tropp. The 23-year-old winger has shown signs of how productive he can be. I think he has very high potential and I hope we're able to see that sometime soon.

The Sabres selected Tropp in the 3rd round (89th overall) in 2007. He put up decent number during his time at Michigan State and then had a 40 point season with the Portland Pirates.

We've seen him play 34 games with the Sabres, scoring eight points, but nothing too exciting from him at the NHL level, at least not yet.

Tropp's injury last season caused him to miss the entire year, and basically, it was a wasted season for Tropp. It was almost a full season without the experience that Buffalo wanted him to have.

Tropp was improving prior to the injury, but everything came to a complete stop for him early last season. He also scored the game-winner in the championship game of the 2011 NHL Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan.

With so many questions surrounding the 2013-14 Buffalo Sabres, would it be possible for Corey Tropp to earn a spot on the team?

He wouldn't be a first line winger, but Tropp may be able to find some room on the 3rd or 4th line. Right now, his biggest competition are players such as Kaleta, Stafford and Grigorenko (who could play center, too). He'll also have wingers Armia and Flynn to go against as well.

If Stafford does end up getting traded, it could open the door and really give Tropp a great chance of making the team. However, I think Tropp still has a good shot anyway, if he does get re-signed by Buffalo.

I think Tropp could be in line for a breakout season. I'm not expecting a ton, but I think he will be very effective. Again, this is all if he gets re-signed and is able to secure a spot.

Tropp is a hard-worker and is someone that I would love to have as a 3rd line winger. That's where he will be able to excel the most.

After coming off an injury like he had last season, he is going to be anxious and hyped to start the new season. I think all of that will motivate him to have a bounce back season, and what would be a career year.

As always, thank you for reading!
