In case you missed it last night, the US and Canadian women's hockey teams do not like each other. There have been fights before like this one earlier this year during an exhibition game at Vermont....
But last night, USA lead 4-1 late in the third period when Canada's Brianne Jenner elbowed USA's Josephine Pucci undetected by the official and the USA ladies took her number. Soon after, Jocelyn Lamoureux saw her opportunity as she and Jenner were both heading towards the corner in pursuit of the puck and laid a heck of body check on Jenner. Legal in NHL terms, but this is women's hockey and there's no checking in women's hockey.
Canada's Melodie Daoust had some things to say, sticks got high and a melee ensued....
I spent time with the women's team while they trained for this Bring On the World Tour and while Jocelyn and Monique Lamoureux are the only ones related by blood, every single one of these ladies are sisters and when you mess with one, you mess with all of them. I have never seen a more cohesive group who plays for each other and the honor to wear the red, white and blue.
You can
watch all the game highlights here, but if you'll be in Minnesota on December 28th, I strongly encourage you to get tickets to their next game in St Paul. The rest of us will be able to watch on NBCSN. These two teams will face-off for the last time before the Olympics in Toronto on December 30th. Team USA has two more cuts to make and will announce their Olympic roster along with the men's team during the Winter Classic in Ann Arbor.
