Thanks to Tampa Bay Lightning and NHL PR for setting up the quick conversation I just had with the newest member of the Lightning, defenseman Victor Hedman.

Jon Jordan: Congratulations!

Victor Hedman: Thank you. It feels very good. It's a great feeling and I look forward to meeting the team.

JJ: When the Islanders were picking at #1, did you think that they might pick you?

VH: You know, I didn't think too much at all. The Islanders picked John (Tavares) and I'm happy for him. Honestly, I was cheering for Tampa to myself. I'm really happy to go there.

JJ: There has been a lot of speculation about where you might end up for a long time. How relieved are you that you finally know what team you'll be playing for?

VH: It's just great to be a part of the Tampa Bay Lightning organization. I know they struggled last year and I really want to help them get better. This really is a dream come true.

JJ: Many of us have long said that you are a perfect fit for the Lightning. They need help on defense now and for the future. You seem to fit that mold exactly. What can Lightning fans expect from you?

VH: Fans can expect a two-way game and I do whatever it takes to win. I want them to know that their team made the right pick for sure.

JJ: What's next for you after tonight?

VH: (Laughs.) I don't know yet! Right now, I just look forward to dinner and enjoying tonight.

JJ: You certainly should, Victor. Will I see you at prospects camp in a few weeks?

VH: Yeah. We'll talk then.

JJ: Congrats again.

VH: Thank you very much.
