Just a quick blog to break down what I know regarding the trade just announced for Tomas Jurco.
I had heard the hawks have been talking to the Red Wings about wingers Tomas Vanek and Tomas Tatar, and defenseman Brendan Smith (now rumored to be heading to the Rangers). As is so often the case, when teams are talking, the names will change—or my information can be a little off.
Jurco is interesting because he is an RFA this summer, a player the Hawks can hold on to if they choose, or expose in the expansion draft (if my numbers are correct).
He has been hurt much of the season with first a back injury and later the flu. When healthy, he has speed to burn and a goal scorer's touch. But you may recall I reported earlier the Hawks might make a move or two merely for a player or two to expose in expansion.
Will he help the Hawks this year? Hard to say. So hard to say in fact that I don't think the Hawks are done. I will dig a bit more to see what more I can find out about this deal and any others on the burner.
