Sure, a win, bringing the series back to the UC for an interesting Game 6, would be great for Blackhawk fans.
And you never know, much stranger things have happened in the wide, wild world of sports.
But, failing that, there are some things Blackhawk fans should be hoping for regardless.
1) A better showing by Huet
Evidence is mounting that in spite of recent reports to the contrary,
Nikolai Khabibulin is finished in Chicago. So it's quite likely,
Cristobal Huet is at least on the roster for the Blackhawks next year. Without question, he can perform better than he did in Game 4. It will be good for him, for the fans and for the team, if he can hold Detroit to 2-3 goals or less.
2) A return to the form of Games 2 and 3
The Hawks let themselves down in Game 4. They let their frustration control them, instead of controlling and channeling it to their advantage.
3) A return to playoff form for
Brian Campbell
Campbell had earned a measure of redemption for his big contract and a so-so regular season with some remarkable play in the playoffs— with Game 4 of these conference finals the one glaring exception.
4) A goal or two for
Patrick Kane
At least on offense, Kane has looked increasingly better in the series, though not near his usual production.
5) 60 minutes of 100% effort
The Hawks have nothing to lose. They have been pretty much written off, and if they do lose, it's the golf course for the next couple of months. There is no reason not to leave it all out on the ice Wednesday night.
