As we languish in the Dog Days of political conventions, the Heat Dome, and the White Sox' implosion—and damn little hockey news—a thought crossed my mind.
If the Hawks want a left wing to play with Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa (because at this point, Jimmy Vesey is at best a longshot), maybe they already (sort of) have their guy: Tomas Fleischmann, aka MeatMan.
I mean, at this point, hasn't our benchmark slipped a bit anyway, when the options are Jiri Hudler or a rookie like Vesey or Richard Panik?
Fleischmann could play there. He's an experienced left wing with some skill. It's an interesting thought—re-up Fleischmann at say $1 million per for a season or two. He's been in Chicago. And he can slide up and down the lineup should the Hawks decide someone else fits better with Toews and Hossa.
And I wouldn't be completely surprised to hear he's staying, although I have not heard it specifically to this point.
Aside from that, not much to report.

If you travel for business these days, you probably have more than one frequent flyer account, where thousands of miles just sit because the reward thresholds are so high and you just don't fly that airline all that often.
Now, you can dos something awesome with those miles: donate them to the families of people with terminal illnesses, allowing them to be with their loved ones in their final days.
The foundation was started a few years ago by a good friend of mine who lost his father. You can donate miles or give a few bucks to make a real difference in someone else's life. Great cause.
