Longer blog to come later today.

All three of my faves for the Hawks are still on the board: Ethan Werek, Zach Budish and Matt Hackett. I'm hoping the Hawks will grab one of them in Round 2.

Here's what I know about Dylan Olsen, and it's mostly good. At least a couple of NHL scouts felt last year he had top 5 talent. And I don't know that he did anything to slide to #28, except for the fact that he plays in a second tier junior league.

Bob McKenzie of TSN compared him to Cam Barker in that he has good size, he's physical and he has offensive skills. From what I've seen on tape, he appears to have better mobility than Barker. But, let's bear in mind, Barker has underappreciated, pretty high-end power play skill.

Olsen's represented Canada in recent international junior play, where he was on an effective top pairing with Ryan Ellis. That, alone, says a lot.

I think he's a good pick and he will play in the NHL. And I dare say, he's a little like Brent Seabrook in terms of high value where he was selected, if not style, in as much as he might have slid a bit in a draft heavy with defensive quality, especially due to his being somewhat out of the limelight of major junior and collegiate hockey.

The cap is staying essentially where it was. No surprise there. No real impact.

Chris Kuc of the Tribune is reporting this AM that a signing of Dave Bolland is imminent (good news). Talks continue with Marty Havlat's agent. Apparently, these are "serious" discussions but no deal has been reached. And Dale Tallon has had "positive" discussions with Nikolai Khabibulin's agent.

Hey Dale. unless Khabibulin is willing to come back at a huge discount, or you really think you can deal Huet, what's that all about?

I am really hoping that signing Khabibulin is not a "p.r." fallback plan in case Havlat leaves. If so, it'll go over about as well as the "Bring Cheli Back" Idea did.

Like a lead balloon.

Stay tuned, Hawk fans.
