Game 47 Recap: Lightning Point Streak Ends at Two Games

The Tampa Bay Lightning could not muster up a single point last night as they fell to the San Jose Sharks for the second time this season, ending the Bolts' point streak at two games.

The Lightning were defeated by the score of 2-1. Does that final score sound familiar? It should because it has been the outcome of every game on this current road trip.

Once again, the Bolts did a nice job preventing the opposition from tallying a lot of goals. It could be argued that the two goals Andrei Vasilevskiy let in were both stoppable but he still managed to only let two shots go in. The big problem with this Lightning team lately is their inability to score enough goals of their own to secure victories. They have only managed to produce four goals in their last three games, two of them coming in the first one.

Scoring on the road has been an issue for the Bolts all season long. The team has scored two goals or less in eight straight games away from the Amalie Arena. This has lead to the Lightning losing 12 of their last 14 games on the road.

One highlight that can be taken away from last night's loss to San Jose is Jonathan Drouin's goal in the second period. If you have not seen the play, you need to go watch it immediately after your finished reading. Drouin was able to take control of the ice, skating all over the Sharks half of the ice, and eventually putting it in the back of the net. Say what you want about what happened last season, this kid has some special talent that will only benefit the future of this Lightning franchise.

The hole that Tampa Bay has put themselves in makes each loss sting just a little bit more. There is no room for an "acceptable loss' as each defeat makes the chances of this team reaching the postseason slimmer and slimmer.

In reality, it would have been difficult for the Lightning to capture at least a point in every game of this lengthy road trip. However, Saturday night's contest against the Arizona Coyotes has to end in a Tampa Bay victory, no excuses.
