Well, everyone involved with the Anaheim Ducks in some way or another has to be thankful that last night was the team's preseason opener and not its regular-season opener.

The Ducks put up a goose egg in their first of seven preseason games, losing to the San Jose Sharks 5-0.

Goaltender, Reto Berra, went the distance for Anaheim making 31 saves. Unfortunately, he allowed five goals to go along with those 31 saves.

Of course, it is only the preseason and game results should be taken with a grain of salt. Everyone needs to realize that this is not the roster that will be dressed once the regular season begins. Still, the Ducks would love to see a better outcome the next time they take to the ice.

Anaheim will look to redeem themselves when they take on the Arizona Coyotes tonight at home.

Quick Side Note...

Similar to most other preseason games, the Ducks and Sharks witnessed an increase in the amount of slashing penalties called. This is a reality all teams are going to have to get used to as the league is committed to cracking down on these offenses. Anaheim must use the six preseason games that remain to adjust their game so they stay out of the penalty box.
