Anaheim Chalks Up Another Preseason Loss

I have said this before but I will say it again, preseason game results should always be taken with a grain of salt. Poor overall performances in these seven games do not necessarily translate into bad play during the regular season.

This is a good thing for the Anaheim Ducks as they suffered their second preseason loss last night. This time, falling 5-1 to the Arizona Coyotes on home ice.

As is the case with most preseason games, the Ducks dressed a lot of their young prospects. Cam Fowler, Kevin Bieksa, Corey Perry, Andrew Cogliano, and Antoine Vermette were the only main roster regulars to take to the ice last night.

The beginning of the game started off a little bizarre as the Coyotes took the lead 24 seconds into the contest but Max Jones was able to even it up quite quickly. Later on in the game, it appeared that Anaheim was going to take the lead on a Kalle Kossila goal but officials ruled that it went off the post. He did indeed score but there is no replay review during the preseason.

It was all downhill from there as Arizona completely took things over. It was not the prettiest of games to watch and was once again dominated by a lot of penalties. Between the two teams, there were 14 separate calls made.

The first two preseason games have not gone as planned for the Ducks as they have only managed one goal in six periods of play. Even if the results do not matter, Anaheim has to start putting the puck in the back of the net.

They will look to get things going when they take on the Los Angeles Kings at home on Friday night.
