Reports are that Coach Ken Hitchcock said that Allen will skate tomorrow and that he might rejoin the team for practice.

Keep your eye out in case Jordan Binnington is sent back down which will be the sign that Allen is fine.

With about 2:15 left in the first period last night, Richard Panik tripped Carl Gunnarsson after Jake Allen covered the puck. Gunnarsson fell on Allen's left ankle and was slow to get up and only finished out the first period with Carter Hutton taking over at the start of the second period.

This morning the Blues have already recalled Jordan Binnington.

Let's use logic to see if we can figure out how bad Allen's injury is.

The Blues are off until Wednesday when they open the season in Chicago so they don't need a backup goalie in the next day or two. If they did have a game tomorrow, you could easily imagine Binnington getting recalled to serve as the backup for that game just in case Hutton got hurt even if Allen was only going to miss a couple of days.

If they just wanted to give Allen a couple of days off from practice, the team could choose to use a local goalie for those couple of days. Many may not realize but the team does have local goalies that they use from time to time throughout the year.

If they were just bringing up Binnington to ensure that a professional level goalie was there for practice, would they choose Binnington or Copley? Based on the assignments to Chicago, one would assume Binnington is currently ahead on the goalie chart. Given that the Wolves' first game isn't until Friday, bringing up Binnington doesn't impact his assumed role as Chicago's starter unless the Allen injury is more than a few days. Perhaps the call up for NHL practices is a reward for his hard work and play. I think it is either that or Allen is expected to be out longer than just a couple of days off. If the Wolves started say Tuesday or Wednesday, I think we could infer a lot more about the injury but given the call up just means more practice for Binnington at the NHL level, I don't think we can infer too much.

Hopefully Allen doesn't have the dreaded high ankle sprain.

I noticed something when putting it together. Shattenkirk is the only American born among the roster. It doesn't matter, just unusual since almost one fourth of the NHL players are American.

More on other things including Yakupov and lines later but the title of my last blog was spot on even if the content wasn't quite.

It’s a great day for hockey.
