Late yesterday afternoon, the Blues announced their roster for the annual Matthew Wuest Memorial Cup tournament in Traverse City. You may recognize it as the 2017 NHL Prospect Tournament but I’ll continue to refer to it based on the trophy name that shows respect to Matthew Wuest who left this earth all too soon. Learn more about Matthew here.

If you are going to the games or watching streams of the Blues’ games, I’d pay particular attention to Klim Kostin (#37), Jordan Kyrou (72), Robert Thomas (36), Tage Thompson (33), Jake Walman (46), and Thomas Vanelli (47). Evan Fitzpatrick and Stephen Dhillon will be between the pipes. Remember, Luke Opilka is out with yet another hip surgery.

The full roster is as follows:

Forwards: Connor Bleackley (67), Filip Helt (86), Tanner Kaspick (83), Klim Kostin (37), Nikolaj Krag-Christensen (58), Jordan Kyrou (72), Mackenzie MacEachern (62), Hayden McCool (89), Greg Meireles (76), Adam Musil (54), Robert Thomas (36), Tage Thompson (33), Alexey Toropchencko (65)

Defense: Sean Allen (81), Trenton Bourque (63), Charles-Edouard D'Astous (74), Michael McKee (84), Niko Mikkola (77), David Noel (60), Dmitrii Sergeev (68), Thomas Vannelli (47), Jake Walman (46)

Goalies: Evan Fitzpatrick (85), Stephen Dhillon (90)

The Blues will be in the Ted Lindsay division, facing off against prospects from the Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars and the Minnesota Wild during the round robin portion of the tournament. The Blues face the Wild at 3pm CST on Friday September 8th, the Stars at 6p CST on the 9th, and the Blue Jackets at 2pm CST on Monday the 11th. The placement games are on the 12th based on your seed.

The Stars roster appears to be very young this year and includes Chris Martenet who was born in St. Louis. The Blues Jackets and Wild do not appear to have released their Traverse city rosters yet.

It’s a great day for hockey.

Fellow Hockeybuzz blogger Minnesota Wild's Dan Wallace agreed to a 1st round, friendly charity wager. Since the Blues won, Dan will be making a donation to Dream Factory St. Louis (http://dreamfactoryincstl.org/). Dream Factory grants dreams to critically and chronically ill children from the ages of three to eighteen. They have one of the highest program expenditure ratios I have ever seen, an amazing 97% is used for actual program services. Usually, more than 3% is used for administrative and fundraising efforts but not at Dream Factory.

With the Predators win, fellow Hockeybuzz blogger Nashville Predator's Paul McCann won our bet and I made a donation to Best Buddies of Tennessee (https://bestbuddies.org/find-programs/tennessee/). Best Buddies works to establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and development capabilities.
