Although most of the rumors and reports swirled yesterday, from extremely significant and well respected sources (Lisa Dillman, Jon Rosen, Elliotte Friedman etc.), today it was made official. The Kings and Darryl Sutter have agreed to a two year extension with the club, with an option for a third year.

The financial details have not been released, but we do know...

And that it will also be north of the $15 Million dollar contract given to Todd McClellan by the Oilers.

While the last two seasons have been struggles for Los Angeles, Sutter has been a prominent fixture on their road to success. He has coached 407 games with the Kings, and holds a 186-112-45 record in the regular season. That is a .608 win percentage if you do not want to do the math. His playoff record in the five years with Los Angeles stands at 41-23 for a .641 win percentage. For sake of reference, Scotty Bowman had a .655 and .642 win percentage with the Detroit Red Wings in regular season and playoffs, while Quenneville currently holds a .647 and .622 percentage respectively.

Despite the criticism that Sutter takes from LA Kings fans and pundits (myself included), his often low key yet passionate approach to coaching has meshed well with a similar locker room makeup. While not always as open and forthcoming in post-game press conferences, Sutter is an incredibly well respected and well thought of figure when it comes to the LA Kings nucleus. You can also get some great one-liners from him at times. Players have often said that Sutter's approach makes them feel like they have a defined role within the team which helps.

And from a social media and in-game perspective, Kings fans will get more of the enjoyable personality Darryl's son Chris for at least two more years.

It was stated earlier in the week by GM Dean Lombardi that the Kings may be in some sort of state of flux moving forward. While an offer had been made to Darryl Sutter, the ball was firmly in his court on what would happen and he was undecided . As Lisa Dillman reported yesterday, it seemed to be in place, and today it was made official.

The Kings can now move further into the offseason knowing they have a key piece of the team solidified.
