A number of Senators prospects will begin their pursuit of a spot on their respective World Junior Championship teams this weekend.
Team USA is hosting their National Junior evaluation camp, and will split into 2 teams for a week-long tournament that will also include Canada, Sweden and Finland as the initial vying for spots begins in earnest.
Thomas Chabot, who played for Canada last year is part of a deep Canadian blue line, featuring 5 first round picks and 4 second round selections. Canada will participate in practices an preparation in Toronto this weekend before heading to Plymouth, MI to participate in the mini-tournament
Ottawa's 2016 first rounder, Logan Brown, will be part of team Blue the USA evaluation camp. Sens 2015 first rounder Colin White is not participating, and I can only assume it is because of the injured wrist that kept him out of Senators development camp earlier this month. As a returning player he should be in the mix when the final rosters are announced in December.
Brown will attempt to show enough in the split squad scrimmages over the first couple of days to survive the cut-down for the US team that will play in the actual tournament Tuesday through Saturday next week.
Jonathan Dahlen, Ottawa's 2nd round pick this year will also be in the Swedish camp.
It might just be exhibition, but having actual hockey to talk about of any substance can only mean the season isn't too far away.
