Senators road woes continue in loss to Preds

Well, that first 3 game winning streak since the mid-October Western Canada swing is going to have to wait a little while longer. For the third time since the All-star break, the Senators but together back to back wins only to fail to finish that third in a row.

The Nashville Predators got some measure of revenge for Ottawa's OT win a week and a half ago back in Ottawa, with a decisive 5-2 win on their own home ice.

Victor Arvidsson had a pair of even strength goals, with Preds blueliners Roman Josi and Ryan Ellis each counting on the power play to lead the way. Craig Smith added the final nail in the coffin in the third period. Jean-Gabreil Pageau scored on the power play for the Sens and Max McCormick added the other one in the losing cause.

It was a tough go for the Senators line of Matt Duchene, Mike Hoffman and Marian Gaborik against the Preds top line of Ryan Johansen, Arvedsson and Filip Forsberg. The Ottawa trio was held pointless with just 3 shots on goal and six attempts between them, and each finished -2. So did Erik Karlsson, who did manage a power play assist but had an egregious turnover from his own goal line that was deflected out of the air by Forsberg that led to Arvidsson's second of the night and the one that really broke the Senators' back as McCormick had just scored to cut the lead to 3-2.

You have to wonder if Pageau's appearance on the power play was a showcase of sorts, as he scored just his career power play goal, and just his third point on the man advantage, because he simply has never got much opportunity. He has played just 124 minutes while the Senators have had the man advantage...in the past 5 years! He played 1:41 Monday in Nashville, almost a minute more than Duchene or Hoffman did.

Kyle Turris got a power play assist on Josi's icebreaker, snapping a 5 game pointless skid and had just 5 points in his last 25 games heading into this one, after getting off to a quick start after the trade.

Ottawa finishes up this two game mid-west road trip with a visit to the struggling Chicago Blackhawks, losers of 9 of their last 10 games.
