We knew there was going to be a Senators' pick heading to the Memorial Cup from the Quebec League this season and last night it was decided which one it would be.

Francis Perron (7th rd, 2014) led the QMJHL playoffs in scoring and his Rouyn-Noranda Huskies clinched the title from Shawinigan and fellow Senators prospect Gabriel Gagne (2nd rd, 2015).

Perron had 33 points in just 18 playoff games, while not quite Mitch Marner numbers is pretty impressive, and he was awarded the Guy Lafleur Trophy as the playoff MVP.

His postseason performance followed up a standout 41 goal, 108 point regular season that was good enough for second in the league in scoring and allowed him to pick up the league MVP as his personal trophy collection grows.

Gagne finished with 22 points in 21 playoff games, while a third Sens prospect, defenseman Tomas Chabot also ended up in the top 10 of playoff scoring with 21 points in 17 games through 3 rounds (17 games).

Chabot was a first rounder and will be counted on to be a contributor to the Senators' future and Gagne as a 2nd rounder will have some hope but if they can get anything out of Perron, who was a late round pick, it would certainly be a bonus and add some depth that they might not have expected from him heading into this season.

Who knows what Perron's long-term future holds, maybe he turns out to be a diamond in the rough, late blooming, late round pick like Mark Stone has turned into, or maybe he never makes it past the A on a regular basis. At least Sens fans will have an added reason to tune in to the Memorial Cup which begins next Thursday in Red Deer.
