Perron Over Erkamps In Battle Of Sens Prospects In Memorial Cup Opener |

A night after Mitch Marner and the London Knights lit up the Red Deer Rebels for a bushel of goals, it was time for the CHL's top ranked team, led by Senators prospect Francis Perron, to put up some numbers.
Perron had 3 assists as the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies held on despite a furious third period comeback attempt by the Brandon Wheat Kings for a 5-3 win. The Wheat Kings feature, among some of their more recognizable names, defenseman Macoy Erkamps, who was signed as an undrafted free agent in early April, a signing that went under the radar a little.
Erkamps was second in the WHL in scoring by defensemen and is also the captain of his club, as is Perron for the Huskies. He had 71 points in 72 regular season games, more than doubling his previous career high of 35 points. He also had 14 points in 21 playoff games this season, his 5th in the Western League and second with the Wheat Kings.
While it is a bit premature to call Erkamps a legitimate prospect, he might add some depth in the AHL, and by all accounts is a character guy who has also won awards for community service, as well as the most inspirational player award in Brandon. Erkamps had an assist in his Memorial Cup debut, a losing effort.
Perron will try to keep his personal and team momentum going this evening against the host Rebels, while Erkamps will face the Knights on Monday.
