Game Day: Senators @ Rangers - tough back to back after win vs Carolina

Judging by the three minute and fifteen second highlight reel I managed to see on the internet, the Senators and Hurricanes played pretty much a Senators vs Hurricanes game - it didn't look like the most exciting game ever played. From the purely analytics point of view (because I didn't get the chance to see it), the Senators were outplayed (57-39 in shots attempted), but the important thing was that Kyle Turris scored the game winner late, and the Senators departed for New York with a big two points.

Turris goal was his 10th of the season, and every one of them as seemed to come at a clutch time. He has three game winners and at least a couple more that have forced overtime.

As they pass the 1/4 season pole, the Senators find themselves in second place in the Atlantic Division and in a great mindset as they make a quick turnaround and head to Madison Square Garden.

The Rangers are playing stellar hockey so far this season, sitting first in the tough Metropolitan division and having a +30 goal differential in 22 games, 11 better than Montreal's +19. The Rangers have scored 85 goals, a league leading 3.86 per game.

New York has been able to light the lamp, which has made up for Henrik Lundqvist's simply OK start to the season. In a week where the Senators have beaten Tuukka Rask and Carey Price, Lundqvist and his 2.43 GAA doesn't seem quite so daunting.

Meanwhile, the win over the Hurricanes has improved Craig Anderson's stats to an impressive 2.15 GAA and .932 SP, but I would imagine Mike Condon will get the call in the Senators goal for the back to back.

It will mark the return of Derick Brassard to the Big Apple, after coming over in a trade for Mika Zibanejad in the summer. Unfortunately, Zibanejad broke his leg last week an will be unable to face his former mates, but one Ranger who will be in the lineup will be Matt Puempel. Claimed off waviers last Monday, Puempel had some choice words directed at the Senators organization in terms of ice time, allowing a player to play to his strengths and how they handle a players' mistakes. Puempel is obviously enjoying his time so far with New York and if he is happier there then good luck to him.

It will be a tough conflict for many viewers as the game will coincide with the RedBlacks and the Grey Cup. Good luck to the RedBlacks as the face the Calgary Stampeders, and they are going to need it because that Stamps club might be the best CFL team since the Doug Flutie era. But, like any sport anything can happen on any given day and that is why they play the game, and why we watch, whatever the sport is.

And that is why PVR and remote controls were invented.
