Mark Stone had the overtime winner, the Senators first such goal this season as they downed the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 in the extra frame.

It was Stone's second goal of the night, and he was a man on a mission almost every time he touched the ice as he continues to demonstrate he is fast becoming one of the best players in the league and perhaps deserves more consideration among the top 50, preseason lists that he was omitted from.

Freddie Claesson scored his first goal of the season in his hometown, a goal that answered the Avalanche icebreaker after just 21 seconds, and Chris DiDomenico added the other to take the opener of the two game Global Series.

Matt Duchene was held off the scoresheet in his Senators debut, finishing with a -1 rating and two shots on goal. He showed signs of nervousness, and passing up shooting opportunities in favor of not appearing selfish with his new teammates.

The teams will do it all again this afternoon, with a 1:00PM eastern puck drop.

It hasn't yet been confirmed at the time of this writing, but I would anticipate Mike Condon getting the start today even though Craig Anderson didn't have an overly busy night. He faced just 19 shots in a game that Ottawa had the edge in play for the most part and shouldn't have let it get to overtime. Anderson had no chance on two of the three goals he allowed.

It would have been a shame to have lost a point in that one, but Stone came to the rescue off a great setup from Derick Brassard and Erik Karlsson, and they will be looking to come home with all four possible points with another win this afternoon.
